This month's story is from Linda Seehusen GPS testimony! "My GPS journey started about 20 years ago during a sermon where a missionary was speaking. She was about 70 years old with medical problems and was traveling around the world doing mission work. I sat there thinking that if she could do that, why wasn’t I doing anything. Later that day, while I was doing dishes, I felt that God told me that I should be a nurse. This was the furthest thing from my mind. At the time, I was working customer service in the call center of a gas and electric company and had no medical experience at all. I went to the local college and easily got signed up for their nursing program for the next fall. I finished a year there and then ended up moving out of the area.
Getting into the nursing program here was not as easy. At the time, they required a CNA class and the only time it was offered was in the evening. Unfortunately, I was working in the evenings. Nursing got put on hold and the years passed. God would periodically give me a nudge to continue my schooling, but I would come up with excuses and ignore the nudges. That is until I took the GPS course. When I took the GPS course, I was a stay-at-home mom and delivering newspapers to help with the grocery bill (5 kids eat a lot). I was feeling like there should be more to life and I needed a purpose. I was going through the course without too much impact until we got to the mission statement lesson. I was really struggling with my mission statement. God was working on me and reminding me of what he had placed in my heart many years ago. There was another person in the class that was struggling with their decision to follow Jesus. When thinking about it after class, I realized that I was at a similar crossroads. I could go back to nursing school, or I could turn my back on it once again. I decided it was time to stop running and do what was scary. The further I went in the GPS course, the more the walls came down and I was able to pursue my dream. Even though the mission and vision statements felt like I was talking about someone else, I immediately began completing the steps needed to begin the journey. I started by taking the CNA class that had been the roadblock at the beginning. Ironically, by the time I applied for the nursing program, it was no longer a requirement. I completed my Associates Degree in nursing in December 2018, passed my boards and became an RN in 2019, and completed my BSN in December 2020. I’m currently working as a RN case manager for an assisted living facility. Without the GPS course, I don’t think that I would have taken the leap and pursued my dream. Thank you GPS!"
